The world needs different. It’s by bringing together varied lived experiences, perspectives and thoughts that we generate ideas and build creative solutions.
We all thrive when what makes us different is embraced. At A&O, we know we can’t be advanced as a firm by all being the same, which is why diversity, equity and inclusion is one of our strategic priorities. It is central to the kind of firm we want to be.
We’re committed to supporting a culture that drives diversity, equity and inclusion. Every day, we’re working hard to create an environment where everyone feels that they can bring their authentic selves to work. To be comfortable and confident to be who they are in the workplace. To feel like they belong. To be All In.
We continually listen using tools such as focus groups and surveys, alongside input from our affinity groups, to understand the wide range of experiences and barriers that our diverse colleagues face. And we hold ourselves accountable, with data and transparency at the heart of our strategy. This enables us to both measure progress and be honest with ourselves when the progress is not what it should be.
And our commitment extends beyond our walls, utilising our expertise on a wide range of global issues in collaboration with clients and other organisations.
We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, but we’re not there yet. We’ll keep asking hard questions and making brave decisions until we are.

Striving for a better gender balance
For gender equality, there can be no glass ceiling. At Allen & Overy we are determined to achieve a better gender balance at all levels of our organisation, and are working hard to make sure that all of our people have the same opportunities to realise their ambitions.
Race and ethnicity – enabling diverse people to thrive
The world is full of different. Are we truly a global firm if our business is not? We’re striving to attract talented, racially and ethnically diverse people, and create an environment where our colleagues not only feel that they belong – they feel they can thrive.
Supporting our LGBTQ+ colleagues and communities
There are all kinds of different in the world. Some differences can be seen, others can’t. However people identify, whatever their difference, we want them to feel completely able to bring their authentic selves to work.
Improving social mobility
In many countries, the socio-economic background children are born into is still the biggest determining factor in their life chances. Social mobility – enabling young people to break out of that cycle and improve on the background they are born into – is a challenge we face the world over.
Supporting our colleagues with disabilities
Sometimes what makes us different is visible. Sometimes it isn’t immediately obvious. We know that differences can be life-changing and can change over time.
